Boat Talk: Hewes Bonefisher 16′ (1991)

Review by Capt. Jamie Boyle

DSC_2687After many years of guiding and lots of different boats I learned that one boat doesn’t do everything I want. So I have two a silverhawk 24’ and a Hewes Bonefisher 16’. Having 2 boats gives my customers a wide variety of fishing options.

LOA: 16’

Fuel: 30 gal

Engine(s): 70 yamaha

Gunnel Height: 6”

MPG @at 4000RPM:  No clue can’t read the gauges..all I know is it tops out at 30mph.

Why did you pick this boat? I picked this boat because it’s a cool classic lapstrake skiff and the price was right. I really enjoy fishing the flats and this was the perfect boat to do it from. I needed a skiff that could fish shallow and still handle a some rough water when traveling between spots.  It allows me to fish water that’s not  accessible by a majority of the boats out there.

Did you make any improvements? No,not really just added a new gps and a little rewiring.

How does the boat ride?  Rides like a flats skiff

How does it handle:  It’s like driving a go cart.

Gear Storage: lots for a 16’

Fish Storage: one well in the stern.

How many people is comfortable: 1-2 plus m

How is it for casting? Wide open
