About Hogy Brand Soft Baits:

At Hogy Lure Company, we specialize in BIG soft baits for BIG fish. Our soft baits are custom hand poured and feature the highest quality of plastic around. You’ll be amazed by their incredible action!  Videos of all our lures in action are available in the video gallery our website.

Why BIG Soft Baits?

  1. Opportunity Cost: Big Baits will weed out smaller fish that could cost you a big opportunity.
  2. Return on Energy: A big bait is worthwhile of the expenditure of energy of a big fish looking for something more than a little “snack.”
  3. Something New: Big Baits have been also been proven time and again to elicit responses from fish that may be overly used to a certain style and type of artificial bait.

Largemouth Bass

Hogy Soft Baits for Largemouth Bass: The 7″ and 10″ Texas-rigged Hogys have been proven to be deadly on largemouth bass. Don’t be afraid to “fish big” for these aggressive fish. Later on in the season when the lily pads are in, the Hogys are great for hopping over the pads. Their pronounced weight and size create a lot of attention. Start fishing them as a jerk bait once they’re off the pads and hang on!

Popular Hogy Brand Soft Baits for Largemouth Bass:

  • 7″ Original Hogy: We particularly like Texas rigging the 7″ Hogy with Owner’s 7/0 oversized worm hook.
  • 10″ Original Hogy: We recommend Owner’s 11/0 Offset worm hook.
  • 14″ Original Hogy: We recommend the Original Hogy Tandem Quick Rig.
  • Hogy Eye Rattles: Hogy Brand eye rattles can be inserted into any soft bait.
  • Hogy Fresh Flavors: Our brand of Hogy Fresh Flavors is designed as a “fresh scent” and to be absorbed into the bait.

Snook

Hogys have a proven track record on BIG snook.  We prefer to rig ours with offset worm hook and fish them in a walk-the-dog fashion. Cast as close to structure as possible and immediately start retrieving once the bait hits the water. If fishing a spillway, cast up current and work the bait as it slides down tide.

During low light conditions, we prefer darker colors such as black, red wine and amber. In high light conditions, we recommend chartreuse, bone and amber.

Popular Hogy Brand Soft Baits for Snook:

  • 7″ Original Hogy: We particularly like Texas rigging the 7″ Hogy with Owner’s 7/0 oversized worm hook.
  • 6″ Skinny Hogy: We particularly like Texas rigging this bait with Owner’s 4/0 offset worm hook.
  • 8″ Paddle Jerk:  This bait is a Hybrid Swimbait jerk bait combo. Fish with tip pointed down with short, sharp rod twitches. A great mullet imitator.

Tarpon

The first Tarpon ever caught on a Hogy was by Capt. Aaron Snell in Key West, Florida using a 14″ Bone colored Hogy in full moon conditions. Since then, Hogys have proven to be killer top water soft baits for tarpon.  Anglers have taken tarpon on Hogy Softbaits in the surf during the fall run in Sebastion, baby tarpon inside when fishing canals and bridges at night.

Popular Hogy Brand Soft Baits for Tarpon:

  • 7″ Original Hogy: We particularly like Texas rigging the 7″ Hogy with Owner’s 7/0 oversized worm hook.
  • 8″ Paddle Jerk:  This bait is a Hybrid Swimbait jerk bait combo. Fish with tip pointed down with short, sharp rod
  • 10″ Original Hogy: We recommend Owner’s 11/0 Offset worm hook.

Redfish

The 6″ Skinny Hogy is hands down our favorite soft bait for redfish!  Although there are many soft baits to choose from in this size class, the proprietary blend of hand poured plastic we use offers a very fluid action that drives redfish crazy. We’ve had great luck with the 7″ bone Hogy on bucktails in deeper water.

Popular Hogy Brand Soft Baits for Redfish:

  • 6″ Skinny Hogy: We particularly like Texas rigging this bait with Owner’s 4/0 offset worm hook.
  • 7″ Original Hogy: Texas rig the 7″ Hogy with Owner’s 7/0 oversized worm hook.
  • Hogy Eye Rattles: Hogy Brand eye rattles can be inserted into any soft bait.

Amberjack

We fish the Jiggn’ Hogy swim bait “Poppin'” style over reefs. Last May off the Outer Banks, we did very well on ‘Jacks topping 40lbs. The key here is to fish them hard and fast, making that Hogy pop and crash across on the surface. Remember to get that fish off the wreck as soon as possible! Use the same 10″ Jiggn’ Hogy on a large jig head if they’re holding deep.

Popular Hogy Brand Soft Baits for Amberjack:

  • 10″ Jiggn’ Poppin: Topwater We recommend Owner’s 11/0 Offset worm hook. Rigged Poppin Style.  Details
  • 10″ Jiggn’ Poppin': Deepwater We recommend at least a 1 Ounce Jig with a 3X strong hook  Details
  • Hogy Brand Jig Head: We make 3X strong Jig heads in 1 and 3 ounces.
  • Hogy Eye Rattles: Hogy Brand eye rattles can be inserted into any soft bait.
  • Hogy Fresh Flavors: Our brand of Hogy Fresh Flavors is designed a “fresh scent” and to be absorbed by our baits.

Cobia

Site fishing for cobia with soft baits can be a truly amazing experience. Our large baits such as our 14″ and 18″ Hogys have such amazing action in the water and a big profile to call them in. If Cobia are hanging in deep water, try bouncing a jig on the bottom. Be ready, a hooked fish often comes up with a few friends!

Popular Hogy Brand Soft Baits for Cobia:

  • 10″ Original Hogy: We recommend Owner’s 11/0 Offset worm hook.
  • 14″ Original Hogy: We recommend the Original Hogy Tandem Quick Rig.
  • 10″ Jiggn’ Poppin': Topwater We recommend Owner’s 11/0 Offset worm hook. Rigged Poppin’ Style.  Details
  • 10″ Jiggn’ Poppin': Deepwater We recommend at least a 1 Ounce Jig with a 3X strong hook  Details
  • Hogy Eye Rattles: Hogy Brand eye rattles can be inserted into any soft bait.
  • Hogy Fresh Flavors: Our brand of Hogy Fresh Flavors is designed a “fresh scent” and to be absorbed by our baits.

Grouper:

The two ways we enjoy using soft baits for grouper are:

  1. Bouncing the bottom with a 10″ Jiggn’ Hogy on a large Jig Head. Jig sizes will vary based on how deep you’re fishing and how fast you’re drifting.
  2. Working Hogys over structure such as a channel drop off or over a rip. In our experience, Amber has been the hot color!

  • 10″ Original Hogy: We recommend Owner’s 11/0 Offset worm hook.
  • 14″ Original Hogy: We recommend the Original Hogy Tandem Quick Rig.
