Some Thoughts on Jig Heads…

When selecting Jig heads, the main thing to keep in mind is that the shape of the jig head should interface with the soft bait as seamlessly as possible.

Avoid a radical difference in size, especially at the back of the jig head where it contacts the soft bait because jig heads that are too large or too small may alter the action of your baits. Also, make sure that the bait is properly seated on the jig head. If it starts to slide down the hook shank, take the minute to secure it.  Baits with big grip barbs are the best to minimize this. Glue can also help with an aging soft bait to keep it on the hook.

Regarding hooks, selected a jig head with a hook set far enough back to that you will eliminate short strikes. Also, pay careful attention to the hook gap. Make sure that there is enough hook gap between the hook point and the bait. This will reduce the amount of fish lost during the battle.
